New Floors Greet Students at Explorer Middle School

Its back-to-school time again, and this year students returning to Explorer Middle School in Everett, Washington will be greeted with brand new locker room floors. The existing floor was well-worn and in need of replacement. Our crew removed the previous epoxy quartz coating, shot blasted the floor, and installed over 3,050 square feet of resinous flooring.

It was important for us to provide a solution that would require little maintenance and withstand the high-traffic endured by locker rooms. Explorer’s gym facilities feature a swimming pool, so our material also needed to be highly chemical and slip resistant. We chose Dur-A-Flex Accelera C seamless flooring system for its non-slip surface, durability, and excellent chemical resistance. Accelera’s low odor and fast cure time proved to be crucial as swim practice continued nearby throughout the installation process.

Before: After years of use, the existing coating in both locker rooms was damaged and no longer safe or sanitary. We mechanically removed the coating using a shot blaster.

Access to the project area was an initial challenge as one locker room featured narrow passages and sharp turns, however our crew was able to quickly resolve the issue and make up any lost time through coordinated teamwork. The final product was a beautiful seamless floor, finished on time and on budget, and ready to support students for many years to come.
